Web Hosting
Runbox Web Hosting is Runbox' state of the art domain and web hosting service. Runbox Web Hosting is included in all Runbox accounts at no extra cost. The service is released in Beta as there are integration and support issues that will be resolved over time, and it's separate from your Runbox Email Hosting with a separate username and password.
Runbox recommends that you use Runbox Email Hosting for your email and Runbox Web Hosting for your web and domain hosting. In the future the two services will be more closely integrated.
Runbox Web Hosting includes 200 MB storage, 4 000 MB data transfer per month, and a cPanel control panel. With your control panel you can easily install and set up your own applications such as:
- Content management systems
- Blogs
- Image galleries
- Discussion boards
- Customer relation software
- E-commerce applications
- Project management applications
- Wikis
- ...and much more
See the
cPanel Demo and
cPanel documentation for more information.
Signing up for Web Hosting
To sign up for a Runbox Web Hosting account you first need to subscribe to the regular Runbox email service and own/administer a domain name. Your Web Hosting account will be linked to your domain name.
Send an email to webhosting AT runbox DOT com with the domain name you would like to use. Runbox will set up the Web Hosting account for you and email you the details of your new Web Hosting account. Please let us know if you are using or will be using Runbox Email Hosting for your email.
You will then need to direct your domain's DNS settings to the Runbox Web Hosting servers by logging into the Domain Registrar where you registered your domain.
Please note that Runbox Web Hosting is different from Runbox Email Hosting. If you are also using your domain for Runbox Email Hosting you will need to update your MX settings in cPanel to mx.runbox.com (IP Number 193.73.199.94) after you have made the DNS changes.
Web Hosting Support
Runbox can only offer support on setting up your Web Hosting account, and not with any third-party applications you set up on the Web Hosting platform. Please refer to the following web sites for additional support:
Hosting platform
Network Infrastructure
The servers run Dual Intel Xeon processors with 2-4GB of RAM and RAID protected hard drives providing the power, versatility, and reliability required for high end servers. The combination provides outstanding performance and headroom for peak workloads, resulting in faster response times.
Raid Disk Mirroring
RAID is short for Redundant Array of Independent Disks and used to mirror data on two disk drives simultaneously to ensure data integrity. Disk mirroring protects from loss of data by instantly switching to the other disk with no interruption in service if one of the disk drives fail without requiring data restoration from a backup.
Linux Operating System
We exclusively use the Linux (Enterprise/Fedora/CentOS) operating system on our servers. Linux is one of the most popular server operating systems in the industry today due to its scalability and track record as the most stable operating system on the market. It is constantly under active development which insures a reliable, secure, and robust platform for web hosting environments.
Datacenter
We operate out of the world class NAC datacenter with multiple tier one backbone providers including Level3, AboveNet, UUNET, InterNAP, Genuity and over 300 peering points and transit providers spanning three countries within North America and Europe.
