POP
A POP client is convenient if you want to
download and store your email on your computer. A POP client is a program for a PC, PDA, or handheld device. Runbox Mail Manager also supports
IMAP (Work with messages directly on the server).
While you must be connected to a server to receive (download) or send email via POP, you need not be connected to read or write your messages. The email you download resides locally on your own computer or internal network.
NOTE: Some newer versions of well known email clients, like Thunderbird 3.x and Apple's Mail app, will now attempt to autodiscover the server settings when you set up a new account, but this does not work for runbox. You need to cancel this and click the option for Manual setup. You may have to click Cancel twice before this option appears.
Setting up a POP client the normal way
Most email programs are easy to set up, with "wizards" or dialog boxes to guide you. To set up your POP client to receive email from Runbox Mail Manager, the information you need is:
- Your Runbox username and password.
- Your email address: username@runbox.com or username@yourdomain.com.
- Incoming (POP) email server: pop.runbox.com, port 110.
- Outgoing (SMTP) email server: Please see the SMTP help page.
NOTE: Users with Runbox addresses (e.g. username@runbox.com) should only use the
username portion of their address for the login. Users with hosted domain addresses (e.g. username@yourdomain.com) should use the format
username%yourdomain.com (note the percent sign) as the login username.
Remember to select "Leave mail on server" in your email program if you want to be able to access your Runbox email on the web or via other clients as well.

If you experience connection problems, please see the
Connection Problems page.
Setting up a POP client with Secure Settings (SSL)
If you access email on public places like airports or Public WLAN, then the secure settings are for you.
- Your Runbox username and password.
- Your email address: username@runbox.com or username@yourdomain.com.
- Incoming (POP) email server: secure.runbox.com, port 995, check option to use SSL
- Outgoing (SMTP) email server: Please see the SMTP help page.
POP From a Folder
To download from a specific folder other than Inbox, create a new account in your mail client with the regular Runbox POP settings, but set the username (or account name) in your email client to:
username%runbox.com%folder - for example:
johndoe%runbox.com%Sent

To POP from a subfolder, use this format:
username%runbox.com%folder.subfolder
For hosted accounts, the syntax is
username%domain.com%folder.
